GDF-8

GDF-8, also known as myostatin, is a protein from the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) superfamily that functions as a potent inhibitor of muscle growth, development, and regeneration. Loss of function or inhibition of GDF-8 leads to significantly increased skeletal muscle mass, a condition known as myopathy. Myostatin also plays a role in the health of bone and the function of the ovary.
